Your Mission Brief

WOLF Advanced Technology is on the hunt for a full-time Sr. Engineer, Firmware to join our Safety Certifiable Solutions team in Aurora, ON.

Reporting to the Director, Technology – Safety Certifiable Solutions, you’ll play a mission-critical role in leading the development of FPGA and SoC-based firmware for safety-critical aerospace and defence systems.

In this senior role, you’ll be at the forefront of firmware innovation, collaborating closely with hardware, software, and verification teams to deliver certifiable, high-performance solutions. You’ll work with cutting-edge platforms like AMD/Xilinx UltraScale+/Versal and NVIDIA IGX Thor, pushing the limits of embedded computing in mission-critical environments.

As Sr. Engineer, Firmware at WOLF, you might…

  • Lead FPGA firmware architecture: Drive end-to-end RTL design, simulation, synthesis, and timing closure on advanced aerospace platforms
  • Engineer high-speed digital interfaces: Implement PCIe, DisplayPort, ARINC818, HDMI, SDI, Ethernet, and DDR links with robust clock domain crossing strategies
  • Integrate hardware and software: Perform board bring-up, debug complex systems, and co-design solutions with cross-functional teams
  • Apply DO-254 process rigor: Ensure requirements traceability, verification, and artifact generation meet stringent safety-certification standards
  • Develop embedded drivers and firmware: Create reusable low-level code for ARM, Zynq UltraScale+, and Versal SoCs
  • Optimize verification workflows: Build SystemVerilog/UVM testbench environments and leverage CI/CD automation for quality assurance
  • Mentor and guide: Support junior engineers with technical leadership, fostering best practices in firmware development
  • Collaborate across disciplines: Influence system architecture, interface control documentation, and compliance deliverables

Your Edge

You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent experience) and bring 7+ years of FPGA and firmware development in aerospace, defence, or similarly regulated industries. You have a proven track record of delivering DO-254-compliant, safety-critical firmware from requirements through verification, with strong RTL design skills in VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog. You are adept at mastering complex platforms such as AMD/Xilinx UltraScale+/Versal and NVIDIA IGX Thor, applying precision and rigor at every stage of development.

You thrive in environments where technical excellence and compliance are non-negotiable. You are equally confident in architecting high-speed digital interfaces, performing board bring-up, and leading cross-functional collaboration with hardware, software, and verification teams. A natural mentor, you share your expertise freely while holding yourself accountable for delivering certifiable, high-performance solutions that perform flawlessly in mission-critical applications.

What You Bring

  • Proficiency with Vivado, Vitis, and Questa, plus debugging tools such as JTAG, Vivado ILA/ChipScope, oscilloscopes, and protocol analyzers
  • Experience implementing high-speed interfaces including PCIe, DisplayPort, ARINC818, HDMI, SDI, Ethernet, and DDR, as well as AXI4 and AXI-Stream protocols
  • Background in hardware/software integration, embedded driver development, and firmware security including encryption and secure boot
  • Ability to contribute to system architecture, interface control documentation, and compliance deliverables
  • Strong leadership traits with the ability to mentor and influence technical direction
  • Eligibility under CGP and ITAR, with an understanding of compliance requirements in military and aerospace manufacturing
